BOTANICAL MEDICINE

Many pharmaceutical drugs are concentrated chemical derivatives from plants and herbs. Botanical medicine is the mother of modern pharmaceutical medicine. The difference is that when you are prescribed a herbal remedy, it contains all chemical parts of the plant and not just one single concentrated chemical derivative. This composition is balanced, the way nature intended. It allows the botanical remedy to be effective, yet have a balanced and gentle affect, without the harsh side effects.

Naturopathic doctors are trained to safely use hundreds of different herbal and botanical medicines. Many of these herbs have been used for thousands of years and have origins in a variety of different cultures. By taking a whole herb for treatment, instead of just a single concentrated chemical derivative, its effects are balanced by the combination of all its chemical parts.

A word of caution however: herbal remedies are medicine! Although herbs are much safer than pharmaceutical drugs, some of these remedies can interact with medication you may be taking. Consult your naturopathic doctor before taking any herbal remedy.
